MEET THE ARTIST
When I retired (in 2018) from a busy and successful professional career in land resource management throughout New Zealand and Australia I set myself a challenging retirement goal: to learn how to paint in watercolours.
My large collection of art is largely set in the landscapes and cityscapes of Australia and New Zealand with a particular focus on the harbors and iconic landmarks that shape our coastal identity.
My work has attracted growing international attention and my paintings now enhance the walls of homes, offices and other spaces throughout the World.
My work is now being targeted for Interior Designers, homeowners and Art Collectors who want a powerful, emotional, and mood evoking statement piece to anchor a room.
Each piece is a study in tranquillity and detail, blending the fluidity of watercolor layering with the structure of pen & wash in a distinctive personal style.

“FEEDBACK ON A COMMISSIONED WORK”
This watercolour of the Fishing Boat “Blue Billie” in the Marina at Coffs Harbour was commissioned by Lana Jane for a special birthday present for her Father-in-Law (who owns the boat). Lana Jane submitted some close-up photos of the boat for my guidance but, after thinking about this, I decided to re-imagine the Boat at a moorage in the marina to enhance and localize the picture to its home berth with Muttonbird Island in the background.
Lana and her partner were blown away by the outcome.

"Dr Richard "Harry" Harris (SC. OAM. Australian of the Year 2019) was presented with one of Gary's Jetty watercolours as a thank-you gift for his support of the Coffs Harbour Daybreak Rotary Clubs Rymarine program at Coffs Harbour in October 2019.
Harry is a celebrated Cave Diver who was jointly awarded “Australian of the Year 2019” for his critical role in rescuing eleven young Thai Soccer Players and their coach from a deep cave in Northern Thailand in November 2018.
